Stella
William J. Hall - July, 1987

Flowers and a photograph
Watch her walk across the room
Like the way she turns to laugh
Does as only she can do
As she put the moments by
Her colors scatter where they lie
Her story rides a painted sky
Again

She says she knows a way
Beyond the power of words to tell
She don't live in yesterday
Says the present serves her well
Honey falling on her skin
She reaches out to take me in
Shivers like a leaf in the harvest wind
Again

And winter towns
Go slowly by
And the wind shifts down
She don't stop to wonder why

Daybreak brings her light
Morning overtakes the moon
Tells me it will be all right
She knows we'll be leaving soon
Stella has her blue dress on
Wonders where the evening's gone
Smiles to herself in the growing dawn
Again

And the winter towns
Go slowly by
And the wind shifts down
She don't stop to wonder why

Flowers and a photograph
Watch her walk across the room
