Love Glorious
William J. Hall - February, 1999

Daybreak -
Freezing rain -
What's become of us?
We lie awake,
We bite, we blame,
We carry on, we fuss;
Ain't it a shame
We still don't know how to trust?
Ain't love glorious?

Against the ache,
Across the chain
We still reach out to touch;
Afraid we'll fake
This what became
Compassion from the crush.
While we proclaim
Karmic justice such a bust.
Ain't love glorious?

We raise the stakes
We stake our claim
We get the most from what we take
We minimize the pain
For what we make
For what we gain
Of glorious
Love
Of love glorious

And when it breaks
We see it plain
Scribbled in the dust:
The cars, the place,
The pocket change,
The family friends and such
Stand back, take aim,
Baby, kill me if you must -
Ain't love glorious?

We raise the stakes
We stake our claim
We get the most from what we take
We minimize the pain
For what we make
For what we gain
Of glorious
Love
Of love glorious
